Alan is an experienced healthcare leader who is recognized for his expertise in developing pragmatic, innovative solutions to achieve clinical, operational, financial, and strategic success across provider and payer organizations. At ECG, Alan leads engagements focused on managed care, enterprise strategy, service lines, pediatrics, access, population health, and health equity. He is passionate about driving enterprise transformation through advanced organizational and analytical insights and proven change management approaches.
Before joining ECG, Alan was a partner in the Strategy and Growth pillar of Optum. As the Pediatric Practice lead, Alan oversaw the growth and development of Optum’s Pediatric Practice and led consulting and management engagements for some of the nation’s most renowned pediatric organizations, including 6 of the top-10 children’s hospitals as ranked by U.S. News & World Report. Alan has helped his clients craft transformational strategic plans and guided them through the design and implementation of the governance, management, and operational frameworks necessary to better align and improve the performance of their service lines.
Alan also offers deep expertise in population health and understands the critical importance of helping organizations address issues impacting their communities’ access to quality care and overall well-being. Alan cofounded the Optum Center for Health Equity to help stakeholders create collaborative approaches to population health, health equity, and social determinants of health across their organizations. He also served as the national clinical lead for UnitedHealth Group’s (UHG’s) COVID‑19 Task Force, which developed and implemented care models and clinical responses for the COVID‑19 public health crisis to reduce the morbidity and mortality for the 350,000 members of UHG’s workforce and their patients. Prior to his time at Optum, Alan was the CEO of the multispecialty Cook Children’s Physician Network and served as the president and CEO of the Cook Children’s HMO.
